Estudié ingeniería comercial y violín. Durante años pensé que eran dos caminos distintos; el café terminó juntándolos.I studied business engineering and violin. For years I thought they were separate paths; coffee ended up bringing them together.
De la ingeniería me quedó la costumbre de medir, ordenar y decidir con datos. Del violín, la idea de que una presentación es una pieza que se ensaya hasta que suena natural. Las dos cosas estuvieron en cada rutina que llevé a una tarima.Engineering left me with the habit of measuring, organizing and deciding with data. Violin left me with the idea that a performance is a piece you rehearse until it sounds natural. Both were in every routine I took on stage.
Soy uno de los tres cofundadores de Alquimia Specialty Coffee. Me certifiqué en barismo, métodos filtrados, análisis sensorial y tueste, y hoy reparto mi tiempo entre la barra, las clases, el jurado de catación y los experimentos que publico en esta web. También soy importador oficial en Bolivia de Comandante, Nucleus Coffee Tools y Urnex.I'm one of the three co-founders of Alquimia Specialty Coffee. I hold certifications in barista skills, brewing, sensory analysis and roasting, and today I split my time between the bar, teaching, cupping juries and the experiments I publish here. I'm also the official Bolivian importer of Comandante, Nucleus Coffee Tools and Urnex.

Mi rutina no buscaba impresionar con ciencia. Buscaba que cada decisión tuviera una razón y una emoción detrás.My routine wasn't about impressing with science. It was about every decision having both a reason and a feeling behind it.
La presenté como una orquesta: los productores eran los compositores y la música conectaba cada taza con los jueces. La preparación fue de más de 16 horas al día con todo el equipo, y buena parte del reto fue logístico: el equipo de competencia, desde tazas hasta cucharas, no se consigue en Bolivia y tuvimos que importarlo todo a contrarreloj.I presented it as an orchestra: the producers were the composers and music connected each cup with the judges. Training ran over 16 hours a day with the whole team, and much of the challenge was logistics: competition gear, from cups to spoons, isn't available in Bolivia, so everything had to be imported against the clock.
